Social Work has been a profession for more than one hundred years. It made its way through countries and language barriers and became an important part of many communities. Social Workers have been fighting injustices and creating safe spaces for communities worldwide. Many want to be Social Workers because they like to help others, while many want to be Social Workers because Social Workers have been such an important part of their lives. In addition too being a part of families and communities, Social Workers had a large play in history and the change of ideologies that were originally discriminatory. These Social Workers fought hard for rights all over the world. In this paper, I will discuss how Social Work became a part of my life and what strengths I have to offer, the way I define Social work, as well as how it relates to class readings. Social Work has many definitions depending on whom is giving them. For me particularly, I found the definition to be a mix of what I know about Social Work from my own experience as well as from what I was taught in school. I have taken social justice classes since I attended tenth grade in high school.
